“We will always keep a weather eye. Focus, awareness, and respect for nature.”

—Cameron Myhrvold, Founder

You can add WeatherEye Vineyards to the list of most exciting new developments in Washington. Located atthe top of Red Mountain, WeatherEye Vineyard was purchased by Washington State wine advocate Cameron Myhrvold in 2004. Cameron quickly brought on Ryan Johnson to plant the vineyard and hired Todd Alexander to make the wines. The first vintage was 2018, and while the wines are already impressive, the best is unquestionably still to come. I believe there is already a waitlist (they don’t produce much), so don’t miss your chance.

Cameron Myrhvold, Owner & Founder

Cameron Myhrvold is a lifelong advocate for Washington wine—long before he planted a single vine. For decades, he has stood quietly at the heart of the region’s evolution, not as a promoter, but as a dedicated steward. A long time board member of the Auction of Washington Wines, he has helped shape the state’s wine community. He is also a serious collector—his cellar a carefully curated archive of Washington vintages, tracking the arc of the industry’s growth.

In 2004, that passion led him to acquire an expanse atop Red Mountain—rugged, windswept, and dismissed by many as too extreme for viticulture. For ten years, he waited.
No planting. No announcements. Just observation—of sun, wind, soil, and season.

In 2014, he brought in viticulturist Ryan Johnson to assess the land. The answer: a small fraction was plantable—but only with extraordinary care. That was enough.

Cameron’s approach has always been long-term, thoughtful, and deeply personal. Though he has founded multiple technology ventures, including the venture capital firm Ignition Partners, he brings a different mindset to WeatherEye—one of quiet commitment, patience, and deep curiosity.

This is not a second act; it is the continuation of a lifelong conversation with the land.

Ryan Johnson, Vineyard Manager

Ryan has been deeply involved in pioneering the “extreme viticulture” side of Red Mountain for the past 20+ years as a vineyard manager and consultant. Formally trained as an artist and a scientist, by approaching his work from both perspectives he has been able to create one of the most innovative vineyards in North America. “Our mission at WeatherEye from Day 1 has been to grow the best grapes possible along the top of Red Mountain. As we strive as a team to accomplish this, it’s satisfying for me when we’re able to combine Form and Function, carefully considering the interplay of performance and aesthetic details. In other words, we expect this place to set the qualitative bar EXTREMELY high but it’s gotta look good while doing it.”

When it comes to farming decisions, Ryan draws upon his many years of experience but also looks at challenges through the dual lens of science…and good ol’ common sense. Every action must always be in the best interest and well-being of his vineyard team, and in the preservation and expression of this unique and special site.

Ryan has been married for 28 years to his wife Rebecca, has 4 children, and enjoys pushing himself physically and mentally in his free time. He and Rebecca have also started a small wine project (MTN/ART Wines) based exclusively on WeatherEye fruit.

Louis Skinner, Winemaker

Some people fall into wine. Louis ran straight at it—with a library card in one hand and a corkscrew in the other. His passion began after one unforgettable tasting of Bordeaux, Burgundy, and Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and he’s been chasing that spark ever since.

Before joining WeatherEye and Force Majeure, Louis spent nearly a decade at Betz Family Winery, one of Washington’s most respected producers, where he rose to the role of Winemaker. His earlier experience at DeLille Cellars and countless hours studying and experimenting in the cellar shaped a winemaking philosophy rooted in curiosity, craftsmanship, and precision.

Louis brings a balance of scientific rigor and sensory intuition to his work—an approach that fits perfectly with WeatherEye’s wild, expressive vineyard sites. “You don’t just make wine from this fruit,” he says, “you collaborate with it.” When he’s not in the cellar, Louis can be found curating blind tastings, exploring old-world wines, or traveling with his wife, Lauren.

Matt Coye, Assistant Winemaker

Matt’s path to wine began unexpectedly in 2011, working at a small shop in Tennessee while studying History. What started as a side job quickly turned into a lifelong passion. After time in wine distribution and hospitality, he moved to Washington in 2015, where he helped run The Thief Fine Wine & Beer in Walla Walla before joining Force Majeure Vineyards in 2019.

Matt’s curiosity and dedication led him from sales to the cellar—first as Cellar Master, and now as Assistant Winemaker for both Force Majeure and WeatherEye. His guiding question remains: “What would the best Domaines in France do here?”

When he’s not in the cellar, Matt and his wife Kyla channel their creativity into Fromagerie, a cheese board and event project that pairs perfectly with their love of wine. They also spend their free time volunteering at a local children’s theater, keeping life balanced between artistry and agriculture.
